![]() With the haggis despatched we meet Marcia the Mayor of Taunton and her husband and find they live down the road from Mike and have a love of folk music! The position of Mayor carries the benefit of an invite to this splendid Burns Night event and the Norton Fitzwarren entertainment machine created yet another fine meal. Fresh Aire enjoyed seeing many familiar faces again and say 'long live community events like these and the people who dedicate their time to making them work'.

![]() As the hunting season on haggis approaches Mike dusts of his weapons and tests them ready for the Norton Fitzwarren event. Both sets of pipes were made by Jon Swayne and this year it was the turn of the G-pipes to get some TLC. A trip to his workshop for a new reed and bag sealing, undertaken by another Mike get them back to fitness and ready for the first haggis! Coincidentally other members of Fresh Aire take an active interest in hearing protection during this season and become remarkably tolerant to band tuning 😀😏😣😆 Hi Graham and Mike
To you and Fresh Aire our thanks we are giving for a wonderful evening of music and dancing!! And that sentiment comes from all our guests too who asked us to convay their thanks to you. Graham was calling. We went round and round. I could feel my old ticker begining to pound! While "Stripping the Willow" we made such a mess!!! But we had so much fun I have to confess!! For the very first time in forty five years Mike "piped in" the Haggis, it brought me to tears! Without proper pipes, we used to made do With a scrap of old tartan, some sticks and kazoo!!! At the end of the Beano (when my resistance was weak) You slipped me some money; about this we must speak! On Tuesday at Morris we can perhaps do a deal? Say at least 50/50? See how we feel! With love and more thanks, John and Penny xx North Curry appears to have more than one football field. We discovered this on arrival there being a distinct lack of any marquee. A slight panic and recheck of the booking form and all was sorted.
Wedding bookings can be rather unpredictable sometimes usually due to timings and "the speeches". Sometimes everyone has had a very long day and the last they want to do is barn dance or ceilidh and most of our callers work is getting the floor full, but tonight was so easy! Many thanks to all those joined in the dancing and made this wedding such a pleasure. Last Friday Fresh Aire were involved in what was, for some of us the end result of being associated with Taunton Deane Morris Men for the last 40 years or so. Their 40th Anniversary at Halsway Manor included meeting lots of previous (old) members and friends. A Fresh Aire big band of Eileen, Mike, Jodie, Jim and guests, Ian and Edwin had a wonderful time. The dancers were numerous and enthusiastic. A night to remember for a very long time.
A St Patrick's booking is always something special and Wellington Junior School was no exception. It's always nice to some friends from previous Fresh Aire bookings. A welcoming crowd with lots of enthusiasm and mis-direction in the dancing (it must have been the Irish in 'em) Finally many thanks to the kitchen staff for secretly supplying us with some food.(Shhhh!)
This is a general invite to Gittisham Village Hall at 8pm tonight. Our caller is the amazing Gill Spence and we may have James Findlay and Jon Dyer guesting with us.
I should have written this blog months ago but seeing as Easter is now closer than New Years Eve I thought I had better write something. Suffice to say that it was a bit of a mad panic but we managed to pull it off. The New Years Eve party band is always open for guest musicians and this year no exception! With Iain our usual lead musician suffering from the dreaded lurgy, Eileen and Mike from Fresh Aire led a band of guest musicians throughout the evening and a great time was had by all. Thanks should go to Silver Flame Rapper for their spot and their band Lasair for the Orcadian Strip the Willow set.
Although this is about New Years eve, musicians from Fresh Aire and Lasair with Taunton Deane Morris Men continued on New Years day at the White Horse in Bradford on Tone. I'm pretty sure we had a good time there as well! Feeling "Burned" out this morning.
It was another great Burn's Night celebration at Norton Fitzwarren village hall last night..Thanks to all those who joined in the dancing Thanks from Fresh Aire to Mary Haywood and her team for the welcome, haggis, whisky and joining in the dancing (not necessarily in that order) with usual vigour and enthusiasm. Wonderful stuff! Willand again! This time the Christmas Party.
A good dance and party was virtually guaranteed as the evening was in the capable hands (and voice) of Mr. Simon Maplesden! tarah! (that OK Simon?) |
